Things To Do in Gold Coast, Australia

Located just south of Brisbane on the east coast, The Gold Coast is a vacation hot spot in Australia. Known for its long sandy beaches, surfing spots, inland waterways, shopping, and theme parks, this city has something for everyone. If you’re looking for something to do while spending a few days in the city, check out some of these ideas!

Take a surfing lesson at Surfer’s Paradise!

They don’t call it Surfers Paradise for nothing! With the ocean’s mild temperatures, the Gold Coast for a great place to both learn to surf, as well as a playground for current surfers! Prospective student surfers will not find it difficult to find a place to take lessons.

Skypoint tower is Australia’s tallest building at approximately 885 feet (or 270 meters) above sea level and offers panoramic views of the Gold Coast. Those who are feeling particularly brave can participate in a 90 minute climb experience on top of the tower and can even pair their climb with a dine-in experience!

Kayak around town (and see some peacocks)

Those looking for calmer waters than the ocean can also kayak along the stream throughout town and kayak to Macintosh Island Park. This park is also known as “Peacock Park” by some and for good reason! It won’t be hard to find these majestic creatures flaunting their stuff and makes for a great kayaking pit stop.

Relax on the beach

While Surfers Paradise is also an adventure lovers’ paradise, it also makes for a great place to relax on the beach and catch some rays. Even during Australia’s winter season, the temperatures here are quite mild and comfortable to lounge on.

Get your freak on at the Ripley’s museum

I love anything mysterious and bizarre and used to watch Ripley’s Believe It or Not! growing up. I might make it one of my travel missions to visit every Ripley’s museum around the world someday (there are 28, in case you were curious!). Some of the oddities you’ll see at this location include a shrunken head and a two-headed calf. This museum is fun way to spend 1-2 hours if you need a break from the sun!

Try some yummy Aussie vegan fast food!

No exaggeration, the best hot dogs I’ve ever had were at the Australian Fast Food restaurant, Lord of the Fries (can we also just say how great of a name that is?!). These restaurants specialize in in vegan dishes including French fries, veggie burgers, hot dogs, and a number of various sides and breakfast items. The Melbourne hot dog was particularly delightful.

I'm a small town girl who grew up in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. I love writing, rock music, and, well, traveling of course! I'm an aspiring travel blogger who started traveling internationally later in life at 21. So far, I've been to 15 countries and 6 out of 7 continents, with my goal to explore Antarctica at some point! When I'm not traveling abroad, I enjoy exploring locally throughout New England, going to concerts, trying new vegetarian cuisine, and spending time with my lovely husband, our precious beagle mix Sophie, and our beloved cats, Moose and Heidi.
