Now that 2023 is officially here, it’s time to start daydreaming and making those travel plans for the year! I already have a few trips planned early into this year, as well as a few ideas for some trips later in 2023. Here’s a list of where I’m hoping to travel to in 2023:
Antarctica Cruise (with a few days exploring Argentina and Chile)
After years of research, planning, and saving, I am finally planning to visit the 7th continent (fingers crossed there aren’t any mishaps)! I’ll be visiting the Antarctic Islands and Peninsula for 5 days this January, surrounded by a night in Ushuaia, Argentina and a few days exploring Chile.
It’s been a tricky trip to plan and pack for, with Chile experiencing their summer season with 90 degree Fahrenheit weather. So far half of my suitcase is for summer weather and the other half for winter! While I’m honestly a little nervous about my trip (which I’m not usually nervous to travel solo!), I can’t wait for the experience of a lifetime. After all, it took years of planning, a pandemic, and saving enough money to finally go on this expedition!
Denver work trip
In order to feel more connected and get some in-person work colleague time, my company (which spans across the US and world) is now hosting work retreats between Boston and Denver every 5-6 months. We had our first meeting in September in Boston and next up is Denver in February! This will be my first time in Colorado and my first state in the mid-west. I’ve visited states on both coasts and some in the south but haven’t made it to the middle of the country yet. It’ll be a short work trip, but I’m hoping to squeeze in some sight-seeing and if nothing else, check out Denver’s food and craft beer scene!
Living like a local in Guatemala
My only regret in life was not having studied abroad in college. But unfortunately with me not knowing what I wanted to do when I grow up (I still don’t at 32!), I ended up switching majors a few times and had a rigid class schedule that prevented flexibility to travel abroad. Not to mention the price for the average study abroad program for a broke 20 year old! Now that I’ve been working remotely the past few years, I’d love to experience a “work abroad/from anywhere” opportunity. I’m also lucky to have my husband’s blessing to have an extended workcation for a few weeks for a change of scenery.
Guatemala is a country I’ve been wanting to visit, but is also place I’m happy to visit during nights and weekends, while saving my paid time off. I’m hoping to explore with Remote Year to have this work abroad experience and I can’t wait to see the adventures I have off the clock!
Snorkel and chill in Belize
After my work abroad experience for a few weeks, I plan on actually taking a few days off to explore Belize with FTLO travel, the millennial travel company I explored Costa Rica with back in 2021. It’ll be a nice way to wrap up a month in Central America by having a relaxing long weekend exploring more Mayan ruins and snorkeling in Belize’s lovely blue waters.
Women in Travel (WITS) Summit in Puerto Rico
Hosted by Wanderful, the Women in Travel Summit is a conference for successful and aspiring travel bloggers, influencers, and entrepreneurs in the travel industry. The conference is usually hosted twice a year, one in a location in North America and one in Europe. I’ve been a part of the Wanderful community for almost a year but didn’t have the chance to go to WITS last year. Now that’s it’s being hosted in Puerto Rico, a place I’ve been wanting to visit in recent years, I’m hoping to make it happen this coming May!
HexFest long weekend in New Orleans
I’ve always been into witches, magic, and anything supernatural related! I love that I live only an hour away from the witch city of Salem, Massachusetts and would love to continue my “witchy tourism” in another city. I visited New Orleans last spring for the first time for a travel festival, Wanderfest, and while that was the priority of my long weekend there, I got a taste of the spookiness NOLA has to offer. I’m hoping to do another long weekend in the city to experience HexFest, a weekend full of witchery and magic!
Return to Iceland in the fall
This will most likely be the only trip Sean and I will go on together (he’s much more of a homebody than I am and happy with 1 trip a year!) but we’re thinking of going back to Iceland this year for our anniversary in October. This October will mark 5 years being married (and 11 years together!) and we couldn’t think of a better way than to go on another trip! We went to Iceland together back in May 2016, where we saw the midnight sun. This time in October, we’re hoping to see the northern lights! We’re also hoping to check out the new sky lagoon that has opened up since our last visit, as well as snorkel the tectonic plates, which we hadn’t done last time!
I can’t wait to see where travel takes all of us this year!
