Well, it’s official. Plane tickets have been booked and accommodation have been reserved. Alongside my boyfriend and travel buddies, we will be embarking on a road trip adventure in May across the land of fire and ice!
It seems that Iceland has become a number one destination for travel bloggers, and after browsing through dozens of photos, I can most certainly see why! Here is a list of some of the places I am hoping to see during my 8 day trip to this mysterious island (in no particular order).
- Gullfoss Waterfall

An abundance of waterfalls are most certainly one of the many gems Iceland has to offer! Gullfoss is composed of a double waterfall that falls over 100 feet into the Hvítá canyon, one of the longest rivers in Iceland. According to our road trip itinerary, we will be passing through and exploring this area during our 7th day, touring the Golden Circle and exploring Þingvellir National Park as well!
2. VÍK and the South Coast

Iceland’s coast and beaches are nothing short than breathtaking and out-of-this world. The country is famously known for its black beach and unique coastline. Not your average day at the beach, that’s for sure!

3. Seljalalandsfoss Waterfall

Have I mentioned how majestic the waterfalls in Iceland are?! Seljalalandsfoss is said to be one of the most picturesque waterfalls in all of Iceland, dropping at approximately 200 feet over a cliff. I’m hoping the weather will permit us to be able to walk behind this magical waterfall.

4. Hallgrímskirkja Church

Not only are there gorgeous landscapes in Iceland, man made structures are just as incredible! This church is located in the middle of Reykjavík and is the tallest building in the country.

5. The Blue Lagoon

While a common and touristy destination, what trip to Iceland would be complete without a trip to the Blue Lagoon? This man-made, geothermal spring is a relaxing way to wind down any vacation to Iceland.

6. The Sun Voyager

This sculpture, located in Reykjavík, is a dreamboat that was an ode to the sun. Representative of the Viking history and culture, as well as beautifully located along the waterfront, this piece of art is a must-see part of Iceland.
There are just so many places of Iceland that I am hoping to see that I hope I will have enough time to experience at least a few of these places! Here are a few things I would also like to do and experience while I am over there:
- Go horseback riding

Icelandic horses tend to be smaller in stature and size than the average horse. What better way to experience the beautiful country side than to take a break from the car and ride a horse throughout this beautiful country.

2. Eat an Icelandic hot dog

Apparently, Iceland has some of the best hot dogs in the world. Available at various gas stations throughout the country, I may have to endulge in this delicous snack while fueling up.
3. See a puffin out in the wild

I’m really hoping to see one of these majestic birds during our road trip, especially where we will be visiting a few beaches!

Have you ever been to Iceland? Is it on your bucket list?
